Abstract

This study aims to examine fundamental philosophical themes such as the human pursuit of knowledge, free will, the dialectic of good and evil, and the relationship between God and humanity through the metaphor of the apple, based on Aştı’s short story In the Footsteps of Adam and Eve. Employing qualitative research methods, including textual analysis and symbolic interpretation, the narratives within the story are analyzed in their mythological, theological, and philosophical contexts. The study argues that Eve, traditionally portrayed as a guilty and seductive figure, can be reinterpreted philosophically as the subject of desire for knowledge and the agent of human consciousness. It is demonstrated that the apple metaphor extends beyond notions of prohibition and sin, generating a multilayered field of meaning that encompasses the emergence of science, fairy tales, ethical dilemmas, and contemporary social tragedies. Through references to Newton’s discovery of gravity, the tale of Snow White, and modern narratives involving the apple, the study highlights the apple as both a symbol of knowledge and the cost of acquiring it. In conclusion, the apple is interpreted as a central metaphor representing humanity’s confrontation with curiosity, the tension between freedom
